Dreaming Anastasia really cool friends contest!

So many wonderful things have happened lately: HAUNTED - the Dreaming Anastasia sequel, which is sold now to Sourcebooks and will be out in 2011; the wonderful support of @yabookscentral in talking about DA, posting my book trailer on their site http://www.yabookscentral.com/ and gaining me like 100 new followers; so many friends who are always there for me whenever I need them, including my agent, editor and publicist - all of whom have been working overtime on my behalf. I don't know what I'd do without all of you - any more than Anne in Dreaming Anastasia would know what to do without her BFF Tess, who I love to write because she has no filter on her mouth and gets to say whatever she's really thinking most of the time.

So... in honor of the many, many people who make my world the place that it is and who have my back when I need it, I think it's time for another Dreaming Anastasia contest/giveaway! Yes, Joy, a contest! We love contests! We want to win cool stuff. Tell us. Tell us!

Okay - here it is. Want to win a signed copy of Dreaming Anastasia, PLUS an autographed poster, some book marks AND a postcard? Here's what ya need to do:

Comment on this post and let me know your favorite friend character in a work of fiction and WHY. (This can be a novel, movie, tv show... whatever, but it has to be a character who's the main character's friend) I will toss the best answers in my contest hat and make husband do his choosing magic!

Okay - let the games begin!
Contest will be open until Tuesday 2/23 at midnite!

Til next time...

I like the question!! I'm going to say Lissa from Vampire Academy who is the best friend of Rose, the main protagonist. Lissa has the gift of compulsion so she can basically get people to do whatever she wants and also she has the gift of spirit, to heal things. She's a princess, she's a vampire which is pretty cool and she's a nice person. Is that enough? Hope so *fingers crossed*

We're just stopping by to congratulate you on all the amazing news! I'm in the middle of my own copy of Dreaming Anastasia (which we hope to giveaway on the blog sometime in March), so don't enter us in the contest. You rock, Joy!

I have to go with Hermione from Harry Potter because she supports Harry no matter what and inspires him to go further despite there being no love interest between them. Plus she's just awesome.

OoOo good question! It's a hard one too! Let's see I am going to choose Simon from The Mortal Instruments series. He's Clary's best friend, and how much he cares for her really show through the writing!

Thanks for the chance to win such awesome stuff Joy!!

Joy, my favorite friend of a main character is Nick Carraway, neighbor and only true friend of Jay Gatsby. Even though Nick is 29 at the beginning of Fitzgerald's book, there's a sense of naievete to Nick that captures my interest. By the end, he's matured, but he still has his sense of right and wrong, and he isn't afraid to let his cousin's family know it!

Plus, it could have something to do with Sam Waterston playing that charcter in the first movie.... WOW! :)

I'm going to have to say Robbie from The Iron King. He has the potential for best friend turned boyfriend, but he's also like a big brother. He's funny and smart and just plain awesome.

Love the contest. I'm a huge fan of bookmarks...and free stuff in general!

It's a hard choice, but I'm going to pick Samuel from the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs. He's always looking out for her, gives her advice but doesn't pressure her and he knows her well enough to know her moods, favourite things, etc.

Hello! First off can't wait for HAUNTED, now I think that Vee Sky from Hush, Hush is the best friend someone could want! She can be a bit pigheaded and off in her own world but that's why you just have to love her!! She makes the best of life with her intersting zest and likes what she likes! If I could have three wishes a day with Vee Sky would be one of them! Good luck to everyone else! :) Wee!

Oh but there are so many to choose from! Let's see, I'll go with a more recent one....how about Vee from HUSH HUSH by Becca Fitzpatrick. She had attitude, style, and still managed to fall prey to bad judgement at times...but came out kicking butt on the other side. =0)

Definitely count me in on your contest! Happy reading!

I love Enna from The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale. She is smart, cunning, friendly and trustworthy. She supports Anidori through everything. Not to mention, she rocks in the sequel ;). She's everything that I'd love to have in a friend.

I'd like to nominate Diana Barry, Anne Shirley's bosom friend & kindred spirit in L.M. Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables series. She becomes like a sister to Anne, and she supports and encourages Anne through good times and bad. They share their hopes and dreams with one another, and Diana's realistic, practical nature often helps balance out Anne's dreamy, idealistic nature.

I'd say Melanie, Scarlet O'Hara's friend in Gone With the Wind. Because she always sees the good in Scarlet, and never left her alone when she needs someone at her side.

If this contest is open for international participants, too, then please count me in.

It's going to have to be Attia from INCARCERON by Catherine Fisher right now, since I'm finishing the book right now. She's a hard core little thing, fighting for Finn against the other guys, making sure she has his back. I'd be scared to mess with Finn if she was around. She's always sticking up for him, I'd love to have her as my friend :)

Thanks for the contest!

Right now, I like Jay from The Body Finder.

Other than him, I love Eve from The Morganville Vampires. I love Eve because she never backs down & she doesn't take crap from anyone. Besides, she has the coolest wardrobe.

Well my nomination for best friend of a main character is Rhoda Morgenstern, best friend to Mary Richards on the Mary Tyler Moore show. Rhoda is everything Mary isn't, bold, loud, and a sarcastic New Yorker. She never tip toes around the truth with Mary. She even flew back Minneapolis to be with Mary after she lost her job! (It was the season finale but we'll give her credit anyways!)

Can't wait for HAUNTED! It's going to be spectacular! I'm so anxious to see where Anne and company are going!

I vote for Lane - Rory's best friend on Gilmore Girls. Lane is smart and funny and has no trouble keeping up with Rory. She supports Rory no matter what happens but she's also not afraid to tell Rory when she's making a HUGE mistake. Isn't that what best friends do?.

My mind has gone completely blank! The only thing that comes to mind is my daughter's favorite show: "iCarly" Sam is Carly's best friend. They may have their minor disagreements and squabbles, but they remain loyal to each other.

I love Simon from the Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare. I love how he jokes at everything, even if it's supposed to be serious, just to lighten the mood. And I like how no matter how bad things get he's always ready to take it on. Also, no matter how much Clary tries to push him away he never left her, and was always there to help her out.
Thanks for the contest!

I am going to say Lissa from the Vampire Academy series. Rose and her are true best friends and will basically do anything for each other and to help each other out. Lissa is from royality and based on class doesnt need to have a friend that isnt royal but she doesnt let that matter and has done a lot for Rose.

Hmmm...where would we be without friends??? My favorite lit. friend is Gale from The Hunger Games because he takes care of Katniss's family while she is gone and he's really loyal. I value loyalty. I know, I know...he is potentially a romantic interest, but I'm Team PEETA! So Gale is offically in the friend category! I guess we will have to wait until Mockingjay in August to find out...

My favorite friend character is Angela from the TV series Bones. She's so chill and has great fashion sense.

We'd stay up all night swapping hair tips, she could be my personal stylist and I would give her really good dating tips (i.e. Do NOT date rich, paranoid scientists with scrufftastic lumberjack beards.)

Still digging on all the great choices! And your explanations are great, too. I, for one, LOVE how so many people tell me that Dreaming Anastasia's Tess is their favorite character. Because I really do adore that girl!

Keep the entries coming until midnite Tuesday!

I got to go with SIMON from THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS series by Cassandra Clare (City of Glass, Ashes, Bones). He is so cute and funny, I just love that feller! He always had me cracking up, and I'm so glad that THE CITY OF ANGELS will focus on him. :]

Maybe I'm a little biased because I finished it yesterday but I love Scout from Firespell by Chloe Neill :)
Her relationship with Lily and the way they talk reminds me a lot of my friends and me :P

Similar character: Arianne in Fallen by Lauren Kate. She's got that funny/crazy/eccentric vibe I love :)

Murtagh from Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon. Murtagh was there for Jamie Fraser at all costs during the first several books. He fought with and for him at all times without fault.

I think that my favorite best friend was Will Landsman in “Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac.” The main character looses her memory after a nasty fall down a flight of stairs. Will who has been her best friend for years (and is obviously in love with her) is very understanding. It is difficult for him to deal with his best friend not knowing who he is or remembering what it was that made them friends. Will even kept his feelings and their “kiss” under wraps because he didn’t want to overwhelm Naomi. That is a true friend, someone who loves you so much (romantic or platonic) that they will ignore their own needs/desires to do what’s best for you.

When you talk about friends, you almost always talk about The Golden Trio: Harry, Ron and Hermione from the Harry Potter series.

My favourite out of those 3 is Hermione. No matter how much she disagrees with Harry, she helps him through thick and thin, even when he doesn't want it. Ron on the other hand... he's the comic relief, he gets what Harry's about every time but he lets his jealousy of Harry get in the way even at crucial moments.

Harry is a lucky git! He gets both Hermione and Ron.

Rube from Dead Like Me. He's the MC's George's mentor after she becomes a grim reaper and he's dark and witty and really compliments George's bitter sarcasm. He says great things like, while George is watching her own autopsy afte she;s been blown to bits:

"It's like a bowl of homemade peach cobbler that you dropped on the floor. No matter how good it might have been, you just don't want it anymore."

Great contest.

My choice has to go to Sheldon Cooper best friend to Leonard on "The Big Bang Theory" - every thing that comes out of that guy's mouth cracks me up.

Also, Victoria (Audrey's friend) from Audrey Wait! I'd love to hang with that chick.
